At St John’s Meads, we believe every child deserves a curriculum that empowers them to grow into independent, confident learners reflecting our values of Love, Independence, Honesty, Generosity, and Teamwork [LIGHT].

Our Science curriculum nurtures each child’s God-given potential, inspiring awe and wonder about the natural world, the universe, and the processes that sustain life.

Aligned with the National Curriculum and connected to Mathematics, Design Technology, and Geography, our Science education develops children’s understanding of key concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics, fostering respect and responsibility for God’s creation.

Lessons build on prior knowledge through scaffolded teaching, explicit modelling of scientific vocabulary, and the use of knowledge organisers to support retrieval and progression. Pupils engage in hands-on investigations, experiments, and enquiry based learning, developing the ability to hypothesise, test, analyse, and draw evidence-based conclusions.

Real-world learning such as outdoor exploration and practical experiments makes Science meaningful and memorable. Children learn to question, investigate, and form well-informed opinions about how scientific discoveries shape our lives and influence the future of our planet.

Assessment is continuous, with feedback used to challenge and extend pupils’ understanding. By connecting scientific knowledge with everyday experiences and global challenges, St John’s Meads cultivates curious, responsible learners who care for the world around them and shine as lights within their communities.
