Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)

At St John’s Meads, we believe every child deserves a curriculum that empowers them to grow into confident, compassionate, and socially responsible individuals, reflecting our values of love, independence, generosity, honesty and teamwork [LIGHT].

Our PSHE curriculum nurtures each child’s God-given potential, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and emotional intelligence to thrive in modern society. It fosters self-belief, resilience, and high aspirations, while promoting mental, physical, and social wellbeing. Pupils are guided to think critically about the world around them, including emerging challenges such as artificial intelligence, misinformation, and disinformation, enabling them to make informed, responsible choices.

Aligned with the National Curriculum and delivered through the Jigsaw programme, our PSHE education develops understanding across six progressive themes: identity, diversity, goals, health, relationships, and change. Lessons are interactive and engaging, incorporating discussions, debates, circle time, games, drama, and reflection. Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is embedded within this framework, helping pupils understand healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, and emotional literacy in age-appropriate ways.

The curriculum is reinforced through themed events, including anti-bullying week and mental health awareness, providing authentic contexts for learning and encouraging pupils to apply their knowledge to everyday life.

Assessment is ongoing, with opportunities for self-reflection and teacher feedback to support growth and personal development. By embedding PSHE in meaningful, contemporary contexts and delivering it with care, St John’s Meads cultivates emotionally literate, socially responsible learners who understand British values, maintain positive relationships, manage their wellbeing effectively, and shine as lights in their communities.
