At St John’s Meads, we believe every child deserves a curriculum that empowers them to grow into independent, confident learners reflecting our values of love, independence, honesty, generosity, and teamwork [LIGHT].
Our Geography curriculum nurtures each child’s God-given potential, inspiring curiosity about the world, its people, and the environments that sustain us.
Aligned with the National Curriculum and connected to Mathematics, Science, and History, our Geography education develops children’s understanding of diverse places, cultures, and landscapes, fostering respect and responsibility for God’s creation.
Lessons build on prior knowledge through scaffolded teaching, explicit modelling of geographical vocabulary, and the use of knowledge organisers to support retrieval and progression. Pupils explore their local area alongside national and global contexts, developing strong locational knowledge, map and fieldwork skills, and the ability to enquire, analyse, and draw conclusions about human and physical processes.
Real-world learning—such as fieldwork, outdoor exploration, and studying current environmental issues—makes Geography meaningful and memorable. Children learn to question, investigate, and form well-informed opinions on how people interact with and influence their surroundings.
Assessment is continuous, with feedback used to challenge and extend pupils’ understanding. By connecting local and global perspectives, St John’s Meads cultivates knowledgeable, compassionate learners who care for the world around them and shine as lights within their communities.
